The Bogazici University School of Engineering in cooperation
with the School of Economics and Administrative Sciences offers a program
that will lead to a Master's degree in Engineering and Technology Management
(ETM). This program is being offered by the Institute for Graduate Studies
in Science and Engineering.
This interdisciplinary graduate program integrates engineering, technology
and management knowledge and the related techniques and skills. It is
structured to meet the need for engineers with a management perspective,
who are expected to take leadership roles in 21st century high-tech enterprises.
The ETM program aims to prepare competent leaders in today's sophisticated
high-tech enterprises in the manufacturing, government or industrial service
sectors of our global economy with a commitment to the environment, quality
and ethics. Technology driven companies have to integrate the system viewpoint
and cope with the rapidly changing markets to ensure their survival in
global competition. In such a continuously changing business environment,
engineers also need to strengthen their technical and managerial skills
throughout their careers.
The ETM program intends to educate engineers for leading roles in the
management of the high technology enterprises. Graduates are expected
to gain competence in designing, implementing, operating and optimizing
high technology systems as well as trengthening their ability to work
as a team, their written and oral communication skills, and also to improve
their system integration perspectives.
The major target population of the ETM program is full-time
working engineers with at least two years of experience. Even though prior
work experience is highly recommended, recent engineering graduates who
intend to start work immediately after graduation may also apply for this
program.
Students receive a Master's degree upon successful completion of the
ETM graduate program. The program is structured as three-credit ten courses
combined with a graduation project equivalent to a 4 credits workload.
Four of these courses are core courses. The elective courses are pooled
into two groups. The first group is composed of mostly management courses
and the second group includes engineering technology-oriented courses.
Each candidate is required to take at least three courses from each group.
There is an additional compulsory one-credit communication skills course.
The course work and the project add up to 35 credits in total. The program
can be completed in three semesters a with regular workload. Students
may select their technical elective courses to specialize in such areas
as Construction Management, Information Technology, Quality Engineering
and the other areas of interest with the guidance of their academic advisor.
** This program is subject to additional tuition and
fees.
