The Department of Tourism Administration aims to educate and train students
for managerial positions in the field of tourism.
The department program offers professional courses which are complemented
by courses in economics, finance, marketing, management, communication,
behavioral sciences, food and beverage. An industrial training period
of minimum 120 workdays during summer months is part of the study. Lectures
and seminars conducted by leading practitioners are incorporated into
the program to familiarize the students with the industry. Proficiency
in a second language in addition to English is also an aim of the program.
Integration with the industry is attained by joint training projects
that are of mutual benefit to students and the members of the tourism
industry. The research projects assigned to the students during the course
of the program are instrumental in developing a theoretical framework.
Field studies expose students to the actual operational structure of the
industry as well as giving them a chance to make contact with the employers
of the service sector.

Tourism history and introductory principles as: Tourism in perspective;
cultural tourism; sociology of tourism; tourism psychology and motivation
as to the different features of the total tourism product. Total tourism
product such as accommodation units, leisure and recreation facilities;
transportation, travel, cultural activities, supporting services as insurance,
banking etc. Planning, development and economics of tourism. Cases on
tourism practices and philosophies as to past, present & future.

The importance of the Anatolian cultural heritage. Races and cultures
that lievd in Anatolia. Paleolithic and neolithic eras in Anatolia. Chalcolithic
culture and Bronze Age. Assyrian trading colony period and history of
the Hittites and Phyrigians and the culture of Urartians. Ancient regions
of Anatolia during Greek and Roman times. Istanbul through the ages. Museums
and site visits are organized as field trips to complement the course.

design of survey instrument; hypothesis testing: univariate and multivariate

Introduction to basic capital budgeting and investment appraisal techniques.
Basic components of a complete feasibility study: Business concept development,
assessment of industry trends, preparation of marketing plan, prepration

analysis, preparation and presentation of feasibility report. Application

Explanation and analysis of the internal workings of a food service management
in business, industry and health related facilities. Presentation and
analysis of food service organization structures, job descriptions, internal
controls, internal system design, specialty food service equipment considerations.
Analysis of the factors in the context of areas such as hotels, airline
catering, other transport catering, educational institutions and contract
food service management. Field visits to above mentioned types of operations.

professional operations. Characteristics of various well known international

components, functions, demand characteristics, social and economic aspects,

Concepts and methods for the development, evaluation and implementation
of business strategies. Important topics will include analyzing the external
environment, identifying and selecting a strategic competitive advantagte,
portfolio analysis and formal planning systems. Case studies will be used
to illustrate some of the concepts and alternative strategies.

Safety and security measures and its operational procedures in air travel,
cruise ships, hotels. Safety hazards, fire safety, food-borne illnesses

and the necesssary insurance selection policies as to the above hazards.

Inrternet as a commercial medium and its use in the tourism industry.
Main areas to be covered (major topics) will include the development of
the internet, social and the marketing changes brought by its utilization
of the world wide web for communications, promotion, advertising and distribution.

The internship provides students with the oppurtunity to work within a
company environment for a total of 120 workdays.
