The Department of Educational Sciences conducts an undergraduate
program leading to a B.A. degree in Guidance and Psychological Counseling
and offers professional courses to students in the Teacher Education Programs
administered by the other departments of the Faculty. There are two double-major
programs conducted by the Department, one with Psychology and the other
with Preschool Education. The Department of Educational Sciences also
cooperates with the Institute of Social Sciences conducting graduate programs
leading to an M.A. degree in Guidance and Psychological Counseling. In
addition, the Department carries out research and contributes to the dissemination
of knowledge in the field.

Principles and characteristics of the teaching profession; classroom and
school environment. Alternative perspectives in education; social, political,
psychological, philosophical, and historical foundations of education.
The Turkish educational system.

Education and the process of socialization. School as a social agency
and as a social system. Analysis of teacher's role in the school and in
the community.

Providing an overall view of student and teaching profession to prospective
guidance counselors under the supervision of a teacher. Exposure to experiences
in school organization and administration, daily activities in school,
students' and teachers' daily life in school, parent-school relationships,
observation of courses related to major and minor fields, the school and
its problems, equipment and materials, written documents and various aspects
of the teaching profession.
