ADMISSION TO BOGAZICI UNIVERSITY
Information for Undergraduate Degree Applicants
TERMS OF INITIAL ADMISSION TO DEGREE PROGRAMS AT BOGAZICI UNIVERSITY
A. For Turkish Nationals:
Candidates desiring to enroll at the undergraduate programs of Bogazici
University (B.U.) need to take the Student Selection Examination (OSS),
conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM). OSYM places
candidates according to their scores, the university quotas and their
list of choices. Those placed at B.U. gain the right to enroll. Turkish-Cypriots
are subject to the same application criteria. The address of OSYM is as
follows: "Ogrenci Secme ve Yerlestirme Merkezi, OSYM - YOS, 06538,

B. For Foreign Nationals:
International candidates carrying high school diplomas with equivalency
to those issued in Turkey may apply for admission to the undergraduate
programs of B.U. However, the University accepts a limited number of students,
placed through the Committee of Higher Education Council in accordance
with openings in each department and as outlined in the manual of the
Examination for Foreign Students (YOS). Turkish-Cypriots and those holding
dual-citizenship with the Republic of Turkey cannot apply to B.U.
as international candidates. Further info about application and evaluation

International candidates also need to score at least 45 standard points
at the Entrance Examination for Foreign Students (YOS) or have
a minimum total score of 1250 from the "math" and "critical
reading" (680 points of which must come from the mathematics section)
in the SAT Reasoning Test .(SAT) is an internationally acclaimed
examination conducted in Turkey and in various countries around the world.

International candidates possessing YOS scores above the minimum score
designated by each department may apply for enrollment at B.U. Application
forms must be submitted to the Registrar's Office within the dates specified
in the Academic
Calendar.

B.U. is the only responsible agent for the evaluation and acceptance of
applicants. It is free to fill the projected openings, and cannot under
any circumstances be held accountable. To have achieved the minimum requirements
for admission, therefore, does not necessarily guarantee acceptance. Non-Turkish

C. Requirements Of Admission For Transfer Students

1. Students actively studying toward Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor
of Science (B.A./B.S.) degrees at universities either in Turkey or abroad,
who have successfully completed at least one year (two
terms) of their education (excluding language preparatory classes)
and who have not interrupted their active enrollment in a higher education
program for more than a semester prior to their application for transfer,
can apply as transfer students. However, transfer to the last two semesters
of the undergraduate program is not applicable. Application forms must
be submitted to the Registrar's Office within the dates specified in the
Academic Calendar.
The number of openings and rules of admission designated by various faculties
of B.U. are announced by the Registrar's Office prior to the application
period. Candidates must successfully provide all documents in order for
their application to be considered.
2. English is the official language of instruction at B.U.; therefore,
all candidates must provide proof of English proficiency. All applicants
need to take one of the examinations listed below and obtain the minimum
score indicated.
EXAMINATIONS
BUEPT (Bogazici University English Proficiency Test)
Minimum Score: 60
This test is conducted by the Bogazici University School of Foreign Languages
(YADYOK) several times a year. Inquiries concerning the dates of the BUEPT
should be made directly to YADYOK. The score received from BUEPT is valid
for two years. For more information on BUEPT, please refer to the Home

USA: TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
Minimum Score: 550, TWE: 4.5
Computer-based TOEFL: 213, TWE: 4.5
TOEFL IBT Test :79, TWE:24
TOEFL is given at least once a week throughout the year in many countries
around the world, and its score is valid for two years. There are two
types of TOEFL examinations, and both are valid only with the TWE section.
UK: IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
Minimum Score: 7
IELTS is conducted by the British Council, and its score is valid for
two years.
3. Documents Required for Application:
a. The completed application form obtained from the Registrar's
Office or the University's Home Page.
b. An official copy of the transcript.
c. A photocopy of high school transcript.
d. An official document indicating the applicant's disciplinary
record at the university from which he or she is transferring (This only
applies to students transferring from Turkish universities).
e. A document demonstrating the applicant's English proficiency.
f. OSYM score card (If OSS or YOS was not taken, international
applicants must send their SAT I score cards).
g. The receipt of application fee.
